Forgotten Memories
By Sarah G 708
It was 1:00 am on a Wednesday, and as per usual I was still unable to sleep due to the thoughts racing through my mind. I was beginning to doze off but was immediately brought back to consciousness as a flash of bright light erupted before me, startled I look up to see my step-grandmother looking down at me. I begin to tear up due to seeing her after so long. "M-Marilyn?" I sniffle softly as my tears begin to slip down my pale face. As I sat up completely allowing my legs to dangle off my bed the softly glowing form of my step-grandmother began to walk forward sitting down beside me, pulling me into a loving embrace. "Hey..." she said softly, slowly caressing my damp cheek wiping the tears off of them. "Its ok...no need to cry," she said pulling me back into her loving embrace. "I won't get to stay here long, so I need to tell you this now," she said pulling me out of her embrace to make eye contact. "You will be visited by three ghosts past, present, and future; but please be careful they will come in many forms, forms you may not want to see," she said carefully, almost as if she was trying to make sure I didn't start crying again, but I couldn't think of anyone bad enough to make me cry upon seeing them. My thoughts were cut short as Marilyn began to fade. "N-no please don't leave again." I sobbed softly. "Goodbye..." she said, and with that, she was gone. I laid back down curling into a ball silently crying myself to sleep.
Chapter Two, Past
After a long day of school, I finally got home and decided to skip dinner. I was tired which was unusual but I brushed it off as I hopped into bed. Just as I was dozing off, my sleep was interrupted yet again by a bright flash of light. At first, I was annoyed but then I remembered what Marylin told me, this is the ghost that is to show me my past, I wonder who they are. I quickly look up only to be greeted with a pair of unnervingly familiar brown, almost black eyes. "Y-you..." I said shakily, eyes widening at the person in front of me. "Tsk Tsk." she scolded, walking forward. "That's no way to talk to an elder now is it?" she said, grabbing my face with one hand, fingers pressed on either of my cheeks. "S-stop..." I said almost inaudibly as I shook violently. "Honestly" she began the say as she roughly let go of my face. "I thought you would've learnt better by now." And with that, the ground began to shake as if we were in an earthquake but nothing was moving except me. "Let's have some fun shall we?" is the last thing I heard before I plummeted into darkness.
I feel the ground beneath my feet cease its shaking and I go to open my eyes only to be blinded by the light around me, however, I keep my eyes open to adjust to my surroundings and see where exactly I am. As my eyes finally adjust I look around only to wish that I could close my eyes and pretend I was home. I start to back away only to be stopped by a wall behind me. I slip down the wall and I'm unable to stop the sobs that rack my body as I shake unable to will my eyes shut as I watch the all too familiar scene unfold before me. "Shut up! Your mommy and daddy can't hear you from here!" a woman yells at the younger form of myself as I shake on the ground from the blows I received from all sides. "Stop!" I scream unable to watch the scene any longer. A light flashes in front of me and I'm transported to the front step of my home. "No!" I scream as I attempt to stop the scene before me as I'm forced to watch a younger version of myself see the images that would haunt her for the rest of her life. I'm flung back into the present as I fall back on my bed unable to stop the tears from slipping down my cheek.
Chapter Three, Present
I look back up to see a ghost of my girlfriend Autumn. "Auttie?" I ask softly. "Yes, Kitten?" she responds softly. "Is it really you?" I ask. "Yes," she says as I run to her at full force, pulling her into a warm embrace. "What are you going to show me?" I ask already aware of the fact she was a ghost. "The present," she says as I’m transported to earlier that day. I look at myself to see I'm in the school bathroom crying, and I know exactly why. "Why can't you just tell your family?" I asked myself as I shook. "I don't know" I whisper as I'm transported to a time earlier this week, its lunch time. "Where's your lunch?" my friend asks. "I already ate." I lied, the truth was that I hadn't had a full meal in over a week, but I couldn't say that. "S-stop please," I ask, and with that, I'm transported back to my room.
Chapter Four, Future
I look back up to see myself but older, "Future I'd assume?" I say as I sit back down on my bed. "Almost," the older version of me says. "I'm what you think your future will be. "And what is that?" I ask. "Non-existent." the aged me says. "Oh..." I say. "And is that true?" I ask. "Only time will tell, but for now goodbye." "Bye..." I whisper as I watch myself disappear. I sniffle as I curl up in a small ball, "Happy birthday to me...happy birthday to me" I cry as I begin to shake. "Happy birthday" I strain "dear me...happy birthday to me...".
